Configure N4 flex fields for XPS

Flex fields are reserved database fields that you can customize in the N4 client according to your requirements. You can use a flex field to store additional information for which there is no pre-defined field in N4, for example to grade the fragility of content.

You can display the following N4 flex fields in XPS:

For information on these fields, see Flex fields viewable in XPS (on page 1). For information on how to configure these fields, see Configure a flex field in N4 (on page 1). For a visual illustration of what is involved in configuring N4 flex fields for XPS, see the process flow (on page 1) diagram.

In N4 versions prior to 2.0, all flex fields displayed in XPS were read-only. In versions 2.0 and later, however, you can configure the following fields as free-text fields that you can edit in the Container Modify dialog box:

If any of these fields are updated by N4 business logic, such as code extension (Groovy code) or a service event, then this affects when a flex field is changed. Therefore, do not make this field editable in XPS.

For configuration information, see Display flex fields in XPS (on page 1).

In the Container Modify dialog box, mapped flex fields with a list of values become available as drop-down lists. Un-mapped flex fields appear as text strings.

To configure flex fields for XPS:

  1. Configure a flex field in N4.

  1. Optionally, configure a list of values for the flex field (on page 1) (in N4).

  2. For a flex field without an LOV, display it in XPS (on page 1).

For a flex field with an LOV, map it to a user-validated field (on page 1).

After you have configured flex fields for XPS, you can:
